We had another really great shoot last week and filmed two important sequences. The first was a small scene that appears on a TV screen that Floyd is watching. It’s a sort of film noir where an assassin enters a building and takes out its ruthless owner. The scene has a massive impact on Floyd and influences his journey and eventual character ark.
The scene was beautifully performed by Genevieve Lowe and Martin smith – two wonderful actors I originally met while filming for Tread the Boards Theatre company in Stratford upon Avon.
The second scene was a childhood flashback that the character Harriet has. This was quiet a difficult scene for me, as tonally, it's the darkest scenes in the movie and I wanted to handle the subject matter sensitively. Without going into to much detail at this stage, it touches on domestic violence. Something that I take very seriously and didn't want to trivialise. Hopefully, we've got the tone right.
Celine Abrahams and Ben Shockley gave exceptional performances as Young Harriet’s estranged parents.
And we were extremely lucky to have the incredible Holly Jacobson to play Young Harriet – she gave a very real and moving performance.
You're probably wondering what on Earth all this has to do with an epic alien invasion (Kaleidoscope Man is a sci-fi movie after all). Well, all I can say is that this all adds up to HOW our characters take on the invasion, but we'll save this for another day...
Keep the faith.
